How to Find Keywords For a Website

Keywords are a key building block for your digital strategy and help you connect with your target audience. They’re the words that they use to find information – so understanding their needs is essential, as it plays a large role in the quality of content you produce to serve them.

Search engines such as Google use keywords to determine what content they should show in their search results.

One aspect of search engine optimization (SEO) is the use of keywords to help get your site ranked on certain pages in popular search engines. These keywords are an important part of optimizing your site to increase its relevance, ranking, and traffic.

What is a Keyword Search?

A keyword search is a search for words or phrases that are relevant to the topic of what you are searching for. It can be done by using a word or phrase in a search engine, such as Google, Yahoo!, Bing, etc.

To be specific, A keyword search is a type of search engine optimization technique that entails using keywords to improve the ranking of a web page in the SERPs.

Researching keywords can indicate which words have the highest demand on the market, which helps you determine what to invest in and how hard it would be for an SEO Artist to rank for those terms in the organic search results

Keyword searches are often used by online marketers, bloggers and business owners to create content that is relevant to their website, blog or social media sites.

How to Find keywords for a Website: 3 Main Cornerstones

I will show you 3 essential steps to take when doing keyword research. You only need three things to remember when doing your keyword research. these are very essentials together to get the sweet spot for each keyword that you’re using.

1. Low Competition.

I always start my keyword research by looking at this point.  If I find that there’s too much competition for a certain keyword, then I don’t even bother with it. Without the ability to rank, I know that I’m not going to be getting any website traffic.

No rankings = No Traffic

When I’m searching for a keyword, I mainly focus on looking at QSR metrics (Quote Search Results). I think Jaaxy (Read Here to learn How to get Lite Jaaxy for Free) offers the best way to do this and it is the tool that I prefer to use.

QSR allows you to get a snapshot of your competitors and is an effective way to rank higher. I recommend 100 competitors or fewer. The fewer the pages in Google’s index with a similar search query to yours, the simpler it becomes to rank higher on the SERP with organic SEO. The smaller the QSR, the better.

Take away #1: less than 100 QSR

2. Getting Some Traffic.

I don’t go for high volume keyword, but instead prefer to rank for relatively low volumes. The time and effort you put in is better spent working on a longer term strategy instead. There is no point in trying to rank under an extremely competitive keyword with high volume that’s not going to give me a good ranking anyway.

I focus on search terms that have over 60 monthly searches and get a decent amount of traffic.

While that sounds low, it adds up when you’re ranking for these keywords. If you’re willing to rank first page of the search engines for many (say 50 ) of these keywords, then it’s worth it – because every little bit helps with conversions.

For this reason, it’s best to focus on keywords that have lower competition and relatively low traffic levels.

Take away #2: Greater than 60 searches / month

3. Making Sense.

It’s difficult to try and make your content relevant with keywords when you are using words that don’t make sense. My keyword I want to target in this article, fits easily within the title.

Focus on the next example to learn more:-

how start online business vs. how to start online business

First keyword; however get some traffic, but hard to fit with correct grammar. The second keywords, I can write naturally and not force anything.  In cases where it doesn’t make sense to include that keyword, I’ll omit using it.

At the end of the day, we must produce content that is not only well-written but also easily understood. The rule in this cornerstone, we’re trying to help people by producing good writing and not just pleasing search engines.

Take Away #3: Grammarly correct

  2. Hi Safia,

Thank you for taking the time to leave this detailed article.

There are a ton of different metrics when it comes to search engine rankings, many of which are constantly changing. Based on current metrics, a good-quality article should have majority Avg + Traffic + QSR rating and higher KQI as I understand. Is that right?

    • Hi Bob,

  7. Hi Safia,

I couldn’t agree more with you. I personally use this same strategy to uncover many untapped keywords with low competition and high traffic and most of them get good rankings within a month.

Another similarly related method that has also rewarded me in the same area is to think about the hot topics of the niche you are in and then use the strategy you have mentioned to narrow down to the right keywords to use in your content. It works like magic.

    All the best
